In 2012 the club had a memorable year, co-hosting the Amateur Championship and hosting the Home Internationals, and until 2017 the course is Scotland’s only final Open qualifying course, hosted on behalf of the R&A.
The championship course was laid out in 1895 by Willie Park Jnr and is a typical links course with undulating fairways, tight lies and beautifully crafted greens. It has been described by Sandy Lyle as being ‘one of the truly great tests of links golf’, comments echoed by Ryder Cup Captain Bernard Gallacher.
Our Victorian clubhouse is beautifully appointed and provides all the facilities you would expect of a golf club which enjoys preferred R&A status. Relax in the spike bar after your round or enjoy the views of the course from the main lounge. Delicious snacks and meals are available all day and the excellent well stocked bars provide a wide range of wines and beers.
Our resident Professional John Greaves has a well stocked shop and he and his staff are always on hand to advise. The club is a teaching location and has one of the finest practice areas in Scotland immediately adjacent to the Clubhouse and this enables the teaching teasm to accommodate large numbers of players, professional and amateur alike, as they prepare to test their golfing skills on Gailes Links.
